Skincare Ingredient Review: Coffee in Skin Care Products

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) November 3, 2007

Caffeine is a skin care ingredient that has made its debut over the last few years. Some studies have shown benefits, while others have castigated caffeine for its harmful consequences. So which is it? Skincare-News.com’s latest article, A Wake Me Up for Your Skin, gives readers the low-down on what to expect from beauty products containing caffeine.
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=456

Imagine having the option of indulging in a shower that gives the same buzz as a cup of coffee. Sold as a shower gel or soap, Shower Shock promises to provide people with a wake-me-up equivalent to two cups of caffeine by directly going into the skin. Unfortunately, according to thebeautybrains.com — cosmetic chemists who blog about beauty products — in order to soak up what amounts to one cup of coffee, it would be necessary to scrub the skin for one hour, minus the rinsing portion of the shower, writes Anna Jane Grossman for The New York Times. Not exactly a quick alternative

Oddly innovative and ineffective products aside, what about the beauty merchandise that make up our routine?

Grossman writes that caffeine’s properties, as a diuretic and stimulant, are the reasons companies are using the ingredient in skin care products. Rewind to 1999 when the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery published a study that found caffeine-based liposome-encapsulated cream reduced the thickness of fat, writes Grossman, and notice that afterwards, a slew of cellulite creams containing caffeine hit the market.

But, there’s no research showing that caffeine actually works on cellulite, says dermatologist Michelle Rivera, in an article in The Washingtonian. She adds, Caffeine is simply not absorbed by the skin. However, according to a recent study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 80% of women who used a caffeine solution for 30 days saw a reduction in skin dimpling, their skin appeared tighter, and they lost 2 cm off their thighs.

Cellulite creams, explains Linda Wells, Allure’s editor-in-chief, contain caffeine because it dehydrates fat cells, giving skin the appearance of smoothness. Caffeine may also reduce puffiness around the eyes and dark circles, says Wells. It works by draining excess lymph fluid and blood short-term.

Products with a coffee-like aroma are also common. But do these really give people the jolt they need? From lip-glosses to creams to scrubs, getting a whiff of these beauty products may make people feel more alert, but only because it’s a learned response for us to connect coffee with feeling energized.

Overall, it appears there isn’t a definitive answer one way or another. Thus far, research has yet to prove caffeine’s benefits for skin.

Coffee–Everything You Need to Know From Arabica to Zanzibar

(PRWEB) March 2, 2005

With a gourmet cup of coffee costing almost as much as a luncheon sandwich these days, more and more people are making their coffee at home from an old fashioned drip coffee machine. Thanks to Starbucks and the other vendors out there, coffee from a can or a jar just doesn't work anymore. Coffee has become the second most valuable item of international trade, just behind petroleum. Worldwide, coffee lovers drink 2.25 billion cups a DAY To satisfy that thirst, the world's coffee growers, each year, produce about 6 million tons of green coffee beans and ship them to thousands of coffee roasters around the globe. People who drink coffee range from those interested only in the caffeine buzz, to the true aficionado, who, like wine connieseurs, are concerned with color, taste, quality and aroma.

For valuable tips about coffee roasting and brewing, information about the latest scientific health studies dealing with coffee, and hundreds of articles, recipes, and locations to buy the best beans at the most affordable prices please visit http://www.coffeefolks.com

Whether you order a cup a joe, some hot java or a caffe macchiato, the primary ingredient remains the coffee bean. Coffee begins on a tree in a warm climate where rainfall is about 50 inches a year, the soil is well drained and preferably volcanic (this is why Hawaiian Kona coffee is so highly prized). The fruit of the coffee plant is called a cherry and is appropriately red in color. The heart of the cherry, generally two beans, is separated from the husk by hand and then air and sun dried. Separating the bean from its outer husk, called hulling is done either mechanically or by hand. These green beans, as they are now known, have a shelf life of about two years.

The mythical story on the discovery of coffee and its use by human beings, involves an Ethiopian goatherd named Kaldi. Kaldi watched in awe and amusement as his flock behaved very strangely each time they ate the bright red fruit from a special plant. He tried the berries and found himself suddenly alert and full of energy. The following day Kaldi reported his experience to a Muslim holy man at a nearby monastery who later gathered some berries which he found to have a bitter taste. Hoping to improve their flavor he roasted them in a fire, crushed them with a stone and boiled them in water. Almost immediately after trying his new concoction, his brain became more active and he was able to stay awake all night without being tired in the morning. News of this miracle berry drink spread rapidly throughout the Middle East and by the 16th century, European travelers were praising the drink in their journals. The secret was out

Most gourmet coffee is produced from Arabica beans which results in a coffee rich and full, providing an intense and fulfilling taste experience. Unlike Robusa coffee, which is considered inferior in taste, aroma and body, Arabica beans grow at higher elevations which means that they take longer to mature thus allowing the beans to produce more of the oils which give coffee its remarkable flavor. With tastes including caramel, chocolate, nutty, earthy, spicy or even floral, gourmet coffee has something for nearly every palate.

It is the roasting process, however, correctly described as both an art and a science, that is essential to the outcome of any coffee. Roasting gives coffee beans their characteristic dark color and intense aroma. The heat cracks the beans, releasing the rich oils hidden inside. Roast at a temperature that is too low, and the bean becomes sour. Roast at too high a temperature and the bean is burnt with a the taste of wood ash. The darker roasts produce the espressos, while the lighter roasts yield the more mellow morning coffees.

Grinding the coffee, another critical phase in preparing the perfect cup, should be done at the last possible moment, just before brewing. Utensils should be clean and the water cold and untreated. A good rule of thumb is a ratio of about one tablespoon of ground coffee to every six ounces of water. Of course individual tastes vary, so adjust accordingly.

The Internet is a tremendous source for the refined drinker of gourmet coffee. In addition to buying the world's greatest beans online, there is easy access to the miscellaneous accessories necessary to prepare the ideal beverage. Coffee can be both a food and a pleasure and with a little online help the perfect ingredients can be easily gathered.

P.S. In Italy, espresso is considered so essential to daily life that the price is regulated by the government.

The Incredible Coffee Diet! Yes It Works

The incredible coffee diet. Individuals have been talking about it there’s a main buzz going around. Okay we have heard of the lemon diet and Riot diet and Atkins diet…you will find millions of diets out there and who knows which are truly working.

Well here we go. I started off with dropping calories and performing little amounts of exercise. To be honest I’m not the exercise kind. I’d rather cut things from my diet and be lazy to lose the weight. I wanted to know if there’s anything I can do to lose the weight the simple way.

Funny sufficient I’m not classified as over weight but after having a child I felt out of shape. I had lumps and bumps in locations most 24 year old women didn’t have them. I am 167cm tall and started off weighting 72kgs. I started cutting out most carbs, soft drink, junk food, take away food and alcohol. It got to a point I was over indulging in these things which is the reason I had put on these additional kilos.

Not a lot seemed to occur – I was losing 1 maybe two kilos in a couple of month. I was hungry all of the time and all I could consider was eating.

I tried to occupy my eating time with coffee. At this time I had no concept about the coffee diet. My coffee intake has gone from 1 coffee a day to about 6 a day. Some say this is poor but after all of the study I have carried out have discovered it’s not as poor as some might believe. Needless to say I don’t suggest this to anybody with heart issues.

In a month I have managed to drop a massive 6kg. Yes that’s correct I have. It wasn’t until I researched these days that I discovered when consuming around 5 cups of coffee a day speeds up your metabolism and assists in losing an extra 200-300 kgs a day.

I have coffee all day every single day and eat a healthy meal at night. If I get hungry throughout the day I eat fruit and nuts and low fat yoghurt to sustain me up until dinner time. I know some might frown on this but I make certain I eat fresh fruit and veggies every single day along with a serving of meat. Even when I have pasta I have a salad on the side.

I have realised that the coffee diet really works! They say not to add milk or sugar into your coffee but I have 2 sugars and milk and still manage to lose weight. I have already dropped a clothes size and I am down to 66kg. I am aiming to get to 60 or 61 kgs within the next 6 weeks which I know is achievable.

I would suggest the coffee diet to everybody but if you are unsure please consult a physician. It worked for me and hopefully it works for you. Yes it’s not a myth – the coffee diet works.

Please make certain you study the diet in depth and make sure you only take on the diet in the event you have no heart or respiratory issues.

Java Jewels Shine at Café Du Monde

NEW ORLEANS, LA (PRWEB) May 28, 2004

The hottest trend in fashion literally is now for sale at New Orleans world-renowned coffee shop, the Caf Du Monde.

Java Jewels, a unique brand of necklaces and bracelets, are made from real coffee beans. The beans are chemically treated and solidified to a jewel-like hardness; then they're handcrafted into an assortment of coffee-themed designs. The result is distinctive jewelry with a flavor all its own.

Coffee is hot, and we don't mean its temperature, said James Anderson, co-owner of Java Jewels. What better way to identify yourself as a coffee lover than by wearing it?

To create the unique jewelry, hand-selected coffee beans are roasted to specific temperatures, a process which results in natural color variations from light brown (Cinnamon Roast) to near-black (French Press). Unprocessed beans are far too brittle to be used as jewelry, Anderson said. So we've developed a process that chemically hardens the beans. They won't break, and they don't stain clothing. To ensure their durability, we've even tested them on surfers.

The fruit of the company's research and development is a durable, naturally appealing product. More than two dozen unique styles (called blends on the company's Web site) are available, with names like Jamaican Blues, Essence of Espresso, Vanilla Latte, Raspberry Mocha, French Press and Caf au Lait.

New Orleans may be the country's largest consumer of beaded necklaces, but Java Jewels are more than Mardi Gras accessories. For the price of just a few cups of coffee, there's no better way for coffee lovers to celebrate their addiction.

These necklaces create a buzz all their own, said Anderson.

Blending Taste with Style, the companys tagline, refers both to the fashion consciousness of those who wear the jewelry, and also to their gourmet-coffee-sipping taste buds. Check them out at http://www.javajewels.com; your favorite blend of coffee already may be synonymous with the latest trend in jewelry.

Java Jewels are available wherever quality gourmet coffee is sold. For more information, contact Java Jewels toll-free at 866-717-JAVA (866-717-5282) or visit http://www.javajewels.com.

Many sober, law abiding people who would never dream of knowingly ingesting a mind- altering drug, actually consume one every day—caffeine!
Caffeine is so pervasive in our culture and in many other cultures that we often forget it is actually a drug that affects our brain.  Caffeine is present in coffee, tea, many cola drinks and over the counter medications.

Disadvantage Of Coffee,Visit To know

http://www.dietbuzzer.com/blog/best-time-for-you-to-lose-weight.html

The most common way that most of us ingest caffeine is in the form of coffee.  And some of us drink many cups of coffee in a day.

If you are one of those people who drinks a lot of coffee daily, you probably wonder what all that coffee is doing to you.  Is coffee really bad for you, or is drinking coffee just a harmless vice?  Can it be possible that coffee is actually good for us?

The research on coffee shows mixed results.  Some studies show that drinking coffee increases the rate of heart attacks, while other studies have shown that drinking large amounts of coffee decreases the risk of diabetes.

There are nutritional advisers who claim that coffee makes us age faster, wears out our adrenal glands, and causes all sorts of untold damage to our cells.

Other researchers claim that coffee, especially if it’s freshly roasted and ground, is full of antioxidants, and therefore good for us.  Most doctors say that drinking one or two cups of coffee a day is probably not harmful.  And of course there are others who say we ought to avoid caffeine altogether.

The one thing that most researchers and most coffee drinkers agree on is that coffee can keep us awake at night and cause insomnia if we drink it late in the day.

Yet many of us drink coffee precisely because we want to boost up the activity of our brain cells, especially when we first wake up.

Many of us feel that we cannot really get going in the morning until we have had our first cup of coffee.  We often continue to drink coffee throughout the day whenever our energy appears to be flagging and our brain seems to need additional help to think more clearly.

Does caffeine really enhance mental performance, or is that just a myth?  Yes, caffeine does give a temporary boost to brain cells.  But the amount required to improve mental performance is not very high.  Even half a cup of coffee will be enough to give your brain a boost that lasts several hours.

Oddly enough, more caffeine is not necessarily better.  In one test done when high-level executives were given the equivalent of fourteen cups of coffee in a day, they made their decisions faster, but the decisions were not of very good quality.

Some People Like To Make Coffee One Cup At A Time

make coffee

Have you ever tried a single cup coffee maker? These are a great addition to any coffee-drinking household. When I look at my parents, it’s hard not to notice their love for coffee. Since they’re in their 60s, they prefer a coffee pot drip beverage, over a caramel macchiato.

In fact, they will brew a pot of coffee two or three times on any given day. This is probably common in most households. The only problem with this system is it doesn’t make much sense. I can’t help but notice what they’re wasting. Many times they will brew an entire pot of coffee simply to drink a single cup. That’s not efficient.

Well, this is why they invented the single cup coffee maker. The minute I spotted this cool innovation, I purchased one for my parents. With a single cup coffee maker, you don’t have to brew that full pot every time.

This machine actually makes a single, fresh cup of coffee with no mess or waste. How cool is that? This is perfect for those who live alone, or merely want a single cup of coffee at a time. Not everyone drinks four or five cups straight like my father.

Isn’t it time for that morning cup of java? This seems to be the trend in American households. We all want to wake up to that fresh aroma of quality coffee beans. In fact, many cultures have adopted the same regime.

It’s been around forever. The old caffeine buzz is imperative to start our day off right. The big question these days concerns your coffee source or coffee machine. Where do you turn for your morning fix? Do you have a new-age espresso machine, or possibly stick with the old-school drip coffee pots? Either can make a great cup of coffee.

It just depends on your taste. Another cool addition to the world of coffee innovations these days is the single cup coffee maker. Ah, things just keep getting easier; don’t they?

If you are in search of a single cup coffee maker, a great place to begin your browsing is online. The World-Wide-Web has a variety of single cup coffee makers to choose from. You can sort through customer reviews and find out what others have experienced before buying one in particular.

With a number of websites at your fingertips, you can surely pinpoint the least expensive single cup coffee maker that’s right for you. That morning cup of java is no longer a hassle. You can have your cup at the push of a button these days.
