If you’re going to attempt to use a coffee pod stick in the 7-9gram range and puncture it at the top so the water can brew through. As with everything you try – try again and you’ll get better results as you figure out what works with the pods you have. The Solofill however is made to work with ground coffee, not punctured coffee pods but it was worth a try.

I’ve found the Solofill to be far superior to the MyKCup – less hassle since you don’t have to remove the insert and screw around with a separate filter basket. It’s superior to the E-Z cup too – with the cost of the E-Z Cup filters, you might as well buy the regular K-Cups. Solofill is nice if the flavour doesn’t exist in a K-cup or you have extra time. From a time standpoint, or if you’re pumping out multiple cups for a crowd, processed K-Cups are still the most convenient. Then again, if the price keeps creeping up, you’ve got an awesome second option with the Solofill.

I had this ordered from Amazon but cancelled the order because I was afraid it wasn’t going to work in our machine? Can you confirm it does work with the Cuisinart?

Posted by: Donna at December 18, 2010 12:39 AM I received both a Cuisinart SS770 Brewing System and a SoloFill Cup for Christmas and I love them both! I was experimenting and used the SoloFill to brew iced tea using Lipton tea bags. I cut open and emptied out the contents of the bags into the SoloFill cup. It worked perfectly! The only issue I have (and this is probably why SoloFill does not specifically list the cups as compatible with Cuisinart SS770s) is that the head of the machine does not close/lower fully. The machine thinks that the head is closed though, as the screen reads “Ready”. I checked the fit to make sure that it is not putting any stress on the top or bottom needles, as I was afraid of damaging them, but I really don’t think the SoloFill is coming into contact with either of them. I think what is preventing the head from closing all the way is that diameter of the hole in the top of the SoloFill cup is not large enough to accommodate the diameter of the rubbery gasket around the upper needle of the machine.

Whoever is producing these needs a larger operation. High demand and no supply. I can go buy a “my k-cup” at any BB and B or Best Buy today. All that said, there must be a reason why they’re selling out and this is the only product of it’s type I’ve seen with all positive reviews and no catastrophic defects.

A Brief Overview of Gourmet Coffee

The word Gourmet is used to refer to the fancier grade, cut, or quality of many of the foods and beverages we consume. Gourmet foods and drinks have long been associated as the regular fare for the rich and famous who can afford the higher pricing that often accompanies many of these finer food and beverage versions. Coffee is a beverage that has been available in cheap, regular and gourmet versions for a long time and the consumption rate of coffee among people from around the world continues to increase every year. Gourmet coffee may have once only been served in the finest dining establishments and found being served mostly in the homes of the upper class, but gourmet coffee is widely available and affordable to a variety of people and is found in a variety of settings today.

Coffee is made from coffee beans which are found within the berries that develop and ripen on a number of smaller evergreen bush plant species known as the Coffea plant. After ripening, coffee berries are harvested, and then undergo a processing which also includes drying them. It is the coffee beans that remain after the processing and drying of the coffee berries. The beans are then roasted to various degrees which cause them to change physically and in the tastes they produce. Finally, the coffee beans are grinded down into a fine consistency that is commonly known as coffee grounds, and packaged and shipped to destinations around the world where consumers can buy and brew coffee grounds to make coffee in commercial, hospitality, institutional, and residential settings. Some people prefer to grind their own coffee beans before brewing them for coffee. Packaged coffee beans that have not been ground can be purchased in stores and ground using the grinding mills that are made available in most of the stores selling them, but also with grinding machines in the home.

The two most commercially grown species of the coffea plant that produce the coffee beans used to make the coffee that the world’s population consumes, are Robusta and Arabica. Gourmet coffee is made from the top tier coffee beans from the arabica coffea plant. These top tier arabica coffea plants are typically grown at very high altitudes (above 3000ft) with ideal soil and climate conditions. The coffee beans produced have fuller flavors, are more aromatic, and have less caffeine in them than other varieties of coffee beans such as Robustas. The coffee beans of arabica coffea plants grown at lower altitudes are still noted among consumers as having richer flavors than the flavors produced by Robusta coffee beans, but it is only the top tier arabica coffee beans that are considered to be Gourmet, and thereby from which gourmet coffee is derived.

Coffee bean grounds and coffee beans that have not been grinded down need to be stored in air-tight containers and kept cool in order to protect them from losing their flavor. The containers that coffee is typically sold in are not the most ideal for storing coffee for a long period of time. When you arrive home after purchasing coffee grounds at the store, consider transferring the fresh coffee grounds to appropriate storage containers to extend its shelf life and full flavor.

Coffee can be brewed in many ways such as boiling, pressuring, and steeping. Most of us brew our coffee using automatic coffee brewing machines and percolators which use gravity to pull hot water through coffee grounds where the hot water mixed with the oils and essences of the coffee grounds empties into a liquid holding container below. Filters are used to keep coffee granules from being emptied into the carafe or liquid holding container from which the brewed coffee can then be served from because most people do not want to drink the coffee granules. Coffee granules can be very bitter once the flavor able oils and essences have been removed through the brewing process. Plants and flowers love coffee grounds though for anybody who is looking for a greener alternative of what to do with coffee grounds after brewing instead of just throwing them in the trash.

Of course, Gourmet coffee beans are only the beginning to creating a truly gourmet coffee experience for many gourmet coffee drinkers. Some people are quite content with drinking their gourmet coffee black, without adding anything like milk, creamer, sugar or other sweeteners or flavorings, to their coffee. While many others want to enhance their gourmet coffee and drinking experience with tasty additions like milk that is whipped into a froth, sweeteners, and mixing in other flavors like chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and mint, to name just a few. Big name coffee chains sell a wide variety of gourmet coffee with different tasty additions and flavors to appeal to gourmet coffee lovers. However, brewing gourmet coffee at home is usually much cheaper, and you can add what you want to your coffee to satisfy your refined, gourmet tastes.

Can you think of a better time to enjoy a fresh brewed cup of coffee than during breakfast or after having a mouth watering desert after dinner?  I’m guessing you’re having a pretty tough time trying to think of better opportunities for doing so.  With the invention of the single serve brewer comes the ability to enjoy great tasting coffee in a few short moments without having to get it at a coffee shop.  They’re so easy to use, and you can enjoy the great tasting coffee that they create in your very own home.

Why are the single serve coffee brewers becoming so popular for many that had become so used to ordinary coffee makers?  One of the more popular producers of coffee makers conducted a survey on this matter and came out with the following results:  It was revealed that around 88 percent of the consumers that purchased single serve brewers loved that fact that they could make a cup of coffee in about one minute.

One of the huge benefits of these coffee makers is that you can make different types of coffee every time, so if someone wants decaf or if someone wants caffeinated coffee, then you can make both types in a very short period of time.  You can also have a variety of coffee flavors on hand at any time so that everyone can enjoy a cup of coffee with the flavor that they enjoy the most.  This saves on clean up, as well as wasted coffee that results from making too much of one kind.  There is a huge time savings benefit with single serve coffee brewers in that you can avoid dealing with brewing times of other more traditional coffee makers as well as clean up time that is required with those types of makers.  If you love the great tasting flavor that is provided by coffee grinders or event antique coffee grinders but don’t want to have to spend the time making the coffee grounds, then you’ll also enjoy the time savings benefit that these brewers provide.

It was also found that 90 percent of those that purchased the single serve brewer loved the fact that there is minimal need for measuring out coffee grounds and that there is very little cleaning that has to be done.  Because you don’t have to spend as much time making the coffee, you have more time to take care of other tasks that you may have on your agenda.

Finally, it was discovered that 65 percent of those that purchased the single serve brewer were determined to buy only quality products when shopping for coffee pods that they would be using when making their own coffee.  Many consumers prefer the pods that Maxwell House have to offer because they are made with 100 percent Arabica beans and have harvested and selected with care for the purpose of filling the coffee pods that are sold.  These types of coffee pods provide the maximum in freshness and coffee flavor and aroma, which is another big reason for their rising popularity.

The coffee pods that you find in your local grocery store will generally fit into most single serve brewers so you can shop for as many as you want so you can always enjoy a great tasting cup of coffee each and every time.  If you’re looking to enjoy a great tasting cup of coffee and save a little time during the process of making coffee, then a single serving brewer might just be the best option for you.
