Nowadays, we have all been interested in all things organic. From the food we eat to the ingredients in our toiletries and makeup, organic products have become our option for healthy living. And for this very same reason, organic coffee has been introduced to the public.

But what is organic coffee? What makes it different from regular coffee? What will we get when we choose organic over regular coffee?

First of all, organic coffee is still coffee but has been grown according to the organic farming techniques and standards. This means that no artificial fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides were used in growing this specific high quality coffee. Such methods that were used in cultivating organic coffee include building healthy soil through terracing, composting, and even inter-cropping. At the same time, organic farmers make use of biological pest control and are moving towards a goal of sustainability for the water, soil, and ecosystem which they use.

There are three main factors which benefit from organic coffee. The first person who benefits from this is us, the consumers. And when we drink organic coffee, we can guarantee that no chemicals or synthetics have been used. It also helps that we have made a good decision that helps the environment and our social surroundings.

The farmers also get a benefit once organic coffee is bought as they can use the money to produce a new batch again. But the biggest benefit goes to our environment, as organic farming supports the long term availability of the supply of water and soil. It also helps the earth by not using those harmful chemicals and pesticides. Now, even those who are avid coffee drinkers can enjoy their cup of Joe without worrying they are putting their health and the environment in danger.

Research has shown that coffee may help reduce the risk of diabetes, particularly early stage diabetes. Coffee has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels and improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Some researchers say that 6 cups per day can reduce the risk of diabetes by fifty percent.

Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease both have been shown to be effected by coffee. People who drink coffee on a regular basis have an eighty percent less chance of having these diseases affect their body than non-coffee drinkers.

The risk of colon cancer is reduced by twenty –five percent by drinking just two cups of coffee per day. This may be due in part to coffee aiding in bowel functions.

Although some studies have also shown that coffee may increase blood pressure in people already suffering from the common ailment, it hasn’t been exactly pinpointed as the cause of the development of high blood pressure in people with normal blood pressure. At this point, the influence of coffee in the cardiovascular effects in the body may require some more intensive study and research.

Coffee drinking is also linked in some way to the development of diabetes. Some studies have shown that heavy coffee drinkers may have a 50 percent less chance of developing diabetes compared to light coffee drinkers. Coffee actually contains substances that help lower blood sugar and can also help in increasing one’s resting metabolism rate when taken regularly. This helps keep the development of diabetes at bay.

There have also been some studies that are able to show coffee being able to protect men from developing Parkinson’s Disease but may not have the same effect in women. The reason for this may be on the difference of hormone production in men and women. There are also other perceived health benefits connected with coffee drinking.

Coffee may help in increasing mental alertness as well as prolong ones waking hours. Drinking coffee may also help in improving short-term memory. Some substances in coffee may also help increase the effectiveness of certain migraine medication.

Although coffee may have these health benefits and more, drinking it in moderation may still apply. You might think in the short term that you can lose more weight by drinkng more coffee each day. The reason for this is that coffee has a bit of a diuretic effect that helps you lose fluid not fat. Caffeine increases stress hormones within your body that increase the risk of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar levels. This hormone actually stmulates your appetite and makes you feel hungry before you should.

Most people add sugar to their coffee adding extra calories to their daily intake. {Research has proven that drinking moderate amounts of coffee is healthy. The same study reveals that drinking too much coffee has a negative effect. Make sure you don’t attempt to drink more than two or three cups per day. Doing this lets you get the benefits of drinking the coffee without the potentially harmful side effects of drinking too much coffee.|

Drinking too much coffee can be harmful but in moderation is fine. Don’t forget about the health risks associated with drinking large amounts of coffee. Don’t forget to monitor and regulate yourself and you won’t have a problem. Moderation is key here.|

Keep in mind that although there are plenty of potential benefits to drinking coffee, there are still quite a few drawbacks to drinking too much.
