People have been drinking coffee in one form or another for hundreds of years. During those hundreds of years there has been debate after debate about whether or not it causes health problems. The simple truth is that there is no simple answer to the question.

Coffee has both pros and cons and these should be taken into consideration. For many people starting the day off without a cup of coffee would not even be an option. Many of these same people will drink multiple cups of coffee throughout the morning and some will continue throughout the day. These are the people who should look at both sides of the coin and then decide how much coffee they should drink.

Good Coffee

As any morning coffee drinker will attest, coffee is an excellent pick-me-up. Practically everyone knows that is true. However, what many people don’t realize is that coffee does have other good qualities. Some of those good qualities are actually health boosters, such as:

Research has shown that coffee may help reduce the risk of diabetes, particularly early stage diabetes. Coffee has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels and improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Some researchers say that 6 cups per day can reduce the risk of diabetes by fifty percent.

Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease both have been shown to be effected by coffee. People who drink coffee on a regular basis have an eighty percent less chance of having these diseases affect their body than non-coffee drinkers.

The risk of colon cancer is reduced by twenty –five percent by drinking just two cups of coffee per day. This may be due in part to coffee aiding in bowel functions.

Other health concerns that have been shown to be positively affected by coffee include: cirrhosis of the liver risk decreases by eighty percent and the chance of having gallstones is decreased as well.

Coffee contains many chemicals that are antibacterial and also contains more antioxidants than a cup of grape juice. The antioxidants help to fight infection and the chemicals found in coffee have antibacterial effects.

In addition, coffee has been shown to help prevent dental cavities and to be helpful to asthma patients. The latter is possibly due to the hot beverage opening up the passageways for breathing.

Bad Coffee

All of the good side effects do not mean that there are not some bad side effects. Coffee is addictive. People who drink coffee daily become addicted to the caffeine. The body becomes accustomed to having caffeine and when it does not it reacts in the form of headaches, depression-like moods, and imbalanced blood sugars.

Coffee can also slow the metabolic system down which makes it harder to maintain weight. There are some people who argue that coffee keeps them from eating, while this may be true, it is also true that metabolism slows down which stops weight loss.

Bottom of the Cup

The bottom of the cup, so to speak, is that just like anything else, coffee consumption should be in moderation. Coffee doesn’t have to be banned but it should be monitored and not over–indulged in.

As a beverage, coffee has become the most popular drink in the world. Its stimulating effects have become one of its main selling points along with the rich aroma and distinct flavor that comes with every cup. Many people may not know it, but drinking coffee may bring with it some added health benefits. Here are just some of them.

Some studies have shown that coffee can help in the fight against some cancers. Researchers have found that coffee may have some anti-cancer properties. This gave evidence to studies that show coffee drinkers having a 50 percent lesser chance of developing liver cancer as compared to non-coffee drinkers. There are also some studies that suggest the beneficial effects of coffee in the lower rates of breast, colon, and rectal cancers in coffee drinkers.

There are also some new studies suggesting that coffee drinking may not lead to people suffering from high blood pressure over time. Although some studies have also shown that coffee may increase blood pressure in people already suffering from the common ailment, it hasn’t been exactly pinpointed as the cause of the development of high blood pressure in people with normal blood pressure. At this point, the influence of coffee in the cardiovascular effects in the body may require some more intensive study and research.

Coffee drinking is also linked in some way to the development of diabetes. Some studies have shown that heavy coffee drinkers may have a 50 percent less chance of developing diabetes compared to light coffee drinkers. Coffee actually contains substances that help lower blood sugar and can also help in increasing one’s resting metabolism rate when taken regularly. This helps keep the development of diabetes at bay.

There have also been some studies that are able to show coffee being able to protect men from developing Parkinson’s Disease but may not have the same effect in women. The reason for this may be on the difference of hormone production in men and women. There are also other perceived health benefits connected with coffee drinking.

Coffee may help in increasing mental alertness as well as prolong ones waking hours. Drinking coffee may also help in improving short-term memory. Some substances in coffee may also help increase the effectiveness of certain migraine medication.

Although coffee may have these health benefits and more, drinking it in moderation may still apply. Drinking too much coffee regularly may also pose some possible health risks that may include insomnia and increased incidence of irritability and anxiety. Too much coffee may cause heartburn as well as indigestion.

These are just some of the health risks that can be caused by drinking too much of the popular stimulant. Moderation is the wise option in most indulgences. This also holds true to drinking coffee.

Too many people have been convinced to give up on coffee believe it to be bad for their health. These people believe a wide range of things about coffee including that it will keep them up all night, that they will become addicted to caffeine, or even that they will need more frequent restroom breaks. Excessive coffee drinking may cause these things. Before you toss your favorite coffee cup, it’s a wise plan to explore the potential benefits of drinking coffee. Keep reading to find out what those potential benefits might be.

For many people, the first noticeable effect of drinking coffee is an increase in short term memory. There is an element in coffee beans that actually works to stimulate memory. This knowledge is particularly useful for students preparing for exams.

Studies also show that the students who drank moderate amounts of coffee scored higher on tests than those who did not. Other studies have shown an increase in cognitive memory among those over the age of 80. In addition, coffee is believed to reduce the risk of developing diseases that impact memory like dementia and Alzheimer’s.

There is a slightly lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes among coffee drinkers. Drinking two cups of coffee daily is believed to reduce the risk of diabetes by as much as 50%. It’s believed that the caffeine in coffee causes a decrease in sensitivity to insulin.

Unfortunately, the same effect can also lead to hypoglycemia, or very low blood sugar levels, in susceptible patients. Hypoglycemic symptoms are not at all pleasant and may include clammy skin, weakness, heart palpitations, and sweating. People who have hypoglycemia should avoid drinking coffee altogether.

Losing weight can be more difficult with the consumption of caffeine. If you want to avoid long term weight gain you should avoid caffeine. You might think in the short term that you can lose more weight by drinkng more coffee each day. The reason for this is that coffee has a bit of a diuretic effect that helps you lose fluid not fat. Caffeine increases stress hormones within your body that increase the risk of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar levels. This hormone actually stmulates your appetite and makes you feel hungry before you should.

Most people add sugar to their coffee adding extra calories to their daily intake. {Research has proven that drinking moderate amounts of coffee is healthy. The same study reveals that drinking too much coffee has a negative effect. Make sure you don’t attempt to drink more than two or three cups per day. Doing this lets you get the benefits of drinking the coffee without the potentially harmful side effects of drinking too much coffee.|

Drinking too much coffee can be harmful but in moderation is fine. Don’t forget about the health risks associated with drinking large amounts of coffee. Don’t forget to monitor and regulate yourself and you won’t have a problem. Moderation is key here.|

Keep in mind that although there are plenty of potential benefits to drinking coffee, there are still quite a few drawbacks to drinking too much.

Studies completed in the past regarding the correlations between coffee and health risks almost always concluded that coffee may cause adverse health risks. While this has been the generally accepted belief, newer studies are suggesting that these beliefs may be false. Today, many studies are finding that coffee, including gourmet coffee blends, may not be as hazardous as previously thought. In fact, the belief today is that gourmet coffee may offer health benefits when consumed in moderation.

A new study done by Harvard Women’s Health Watch suggests that regular gourmet coffee drinkers are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes compared to those who do not drink it. The study also suggests an array of other health risks, in addition to type 2 diabetes, can be lowered by moderate consumption of gourmet coffee blends. These risks include developing gallstones, colon cancer, liver damage (especially in those who have liver disease) and Parkinson’s disease.

According to an article on WebMD.com regarding coffee and health, the statistics are surprising. At least six recently conducted studies state that people who drink a moderate amount of coffee on a regular basis can decrease their risk of Parkinson’s disease by up to 80%. When compared to not drinking coffee, a person who consumes at least two cups per day can reduce their risk of colon cancer by 25% and reduce the risk of gallstones by almost 50%.

It is important to remember what the recommended amount of daily gourmet coffee consumption is. According to many studies, a moderate amount of coffee is considered two to four cups per day. This amount is suggested to be the perfect serving in order to best reap the possible health benefits.

At some online cheaper coffee suppliers, you can order pre-measured packs of gourmet coffee. These packets can help any workplace offer the prefect amount of gourmet coffee in order to help employees gather the possible health benefits. Office managers can order the gourmet coffee packets at a lower cost online and are now able to provide their employees with higher quality coffee that fits into their existing break-room budget. By providing your employees quality gourmet coffee blends, you are showing care and interest in their health.

These new findings are continuing to be tested to learn more about the health benefits that coffee can offer. At work, many people crave the boost of energy from the caffeine found in coffee. These recent studies suggest that this effect may just be an extra benefit due to the new health discoveries. Keeping the break-room stocked with a variety of favorite

The reports we hear and see about the benefits and risks of drinking coffee can be confusing. Some reports say that drinking coffee offers many health benefits. While other reports say that drinking coffee carries health risks. One week the gourmet coffee you love to drink is good for you, and the very next week it is bad for you.

A lot of the confusion begins with the caffeine content found in coffee. It is the caffeine that makes coffee such a stimulating drink. Caffeine gives you a quick energy boost and may even help you focus more on what you are doing and can help you remember details a little better. But caffeine has also been shown to cause health risks when consumed in large amounts. How much is too much is hotly debated in health circles, and a clear consensus on the allowable amount of caffeine that can be consumed daily without risking health, remains to be reached. Taking a more cautious stance on the suggested amounts of caffeine that can safely consumed however, many health experts do recommend a limiting of no more than 3 cups of caffeinated coffee per day for coffee drinkers, and reducing caffeine intake from other beverages like teas and sodas.

Lost in the shadows of all the debating over caffeine in coffee are the health benefits that gourmet coffee, for example, offers. Gourmet coffee is derived from the seed or bean of the Arabica coffee plant. It has far less caffeine content than the coffee that is made from the seeds of other varieties of the coffee plant. The Arabica coffee plant is typically grown in elevations ranging from 1000 to more than 5,500 feet above sea level, and in regions with rich soils and climates that foster the healthy growth and development of this plant. Because of these conditions, the beans retain higher amounts of their healthy properties while less-desirable properties such as caffeine are reduced.

The gourmet coffee bean used in the brewing of gourmet coffee for drinking, is full of antioxidants that offer us protection against the radicals that are present in our bodies and that can make us sick and even make us more susceptible to major conditions like heart disease and cancers. The conditions under which the gourmet coffee bean is grown permits less use of pesticides which are harmful to humans, animals, plants, and the environment. When pesticides are used to control insect infestations and plant diseases, they can infiltrate the plant and remain there even after processing, although usually in lesser amounts. But consuming pesticides in any amounts from the foods we eat and the beverages we drink is not good for our health. They can cause serious and even deadly risks to our health when consumed regularly because the level of pesticides grows higher than what our bodies has natural defenses to fight. Other harmful substances are often added to foods and drinks made available for consumers to extend shelf life and enhance appearance, and these can harm our health as well.

The antioxidant properties in gourmet coffee can help the body to fight off the harmful affects of the pesticide residuals and added substances we ingest from the foods and beverages we consume. Antioxidants help the body to neutralize these radicals before they can develop into serious and deadly diseases. Other properties in gourmet coffee beans have been shown to reduce the risks for developing heart disease for many coffee drinkers who are at higher risk for heart disease.

Caffeine can of course give you a quick burst of energy and this is why many people drink coffee. But the other properties in the gourmet coffee bean and present in the brewed coffee we drink interact with chemicals in the brain to elevate mood, and improve powers of concentration and comprehension. These attributes are viewed as health benefits that can result from the consuming of gourmet coffee.

Drinking coffee has long been a social activity and sharing a cup of coffee with a friend or in a group setting benefits us by meeting the basic human need we all have of connecting socially with other human beings. In unfamiliar surroundings and settings, drinking coffee offers the comfort of something familiar to the coffee drinker, which can reduce the stress of being in a new place or with new people.

The health benefits gained by drinking gourmet coffee far outweigh the risks associated with caffeine consumption when you take care not to consume more caffeine than is recommended. Two or three cups of gourmet coffee a day should not present a risk to your health. You should be aware of how much caffeine you are consuming daily in other beverages and substitute

One common fact in life is that with age, you often become more conscious of protecting your health and preventing the development of diseases. If you are a postmenopausal woman with these concerns, you will be happy to know the latest research that drinking 1 to 3 cups of coffee each day will protect your heart.

This 15 year study was recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition to show that there were fewer deaths as a result of non-cancerous inflammatory diseases and heart disease among women who were postmenopausal. This group of women consumed 1 to 3 cups of coffee each day. This showed that coffee was responsible for these health benefits, especially since it is the second most consumed beverage worldwide. Coffee is the main source of antioxidants for many Americans within their daily diet, which will help to reduce heart disease and inflammation, as confirmed by Lene Frost Andersen, PhD, who works in the nutrition department at the University of Oslo in Norway.

The results of the study were drawn from 27,312 postmenopausal women participating in this study done by Iowa Women’s Health. The study commenced in 1986, and all of the participants were 55 to 69 years old. They had not yet been diagnosed with any conditions like diabetes, cancer, or heart disease, excluding skin cancer. All of the women completed a 127 question survey about their regular habits, including coffee consumption, alcohol use, and smoking. None of the women changed their coffee drinking habits for the purpose of the study. The women in the study were followed for more than 15 years, and within that time period, 1411 women died from heart disease, 1733 women passed away from cancer, and 1211 women died from other diseases or causes. The women who consumed 1 to 3 cups of coffee each day had less of a risk of dying from heart disease or inflammatory diseases, not including cancer, as opposed to the other women studied.
The women who drank 1 to 3 cups of coffee on a daily basis were 24% less likely to die from heart disease within the study, which was compared to the women who abstained from coffee altogether. The women who consumed 1 to 3 cups of coffee on a daily basis also had a 28% less chance of dying from non-cancerous inflammatory diseases, which was compared to those who did not consume coffee, according to the study. Deaths as a result of cancer were not related to coffee consumption.

These results were not seen for the consumption of other beverages, like tea, sugary drinks, fruit juice, diet soda, and milk. The study did not conclude that drinking coffee was completely responsible for a lowered risk of heart disease, but the results were consistent to confirm that drinking 1 to 3 cups of coffee each day provides protection against inflammatory disease and cardiovascular issues in women who are postmenopausal.
