Coffee Making

I enjoy a coffee first thing in the morning. Like most coffee lovers, the anticipation of the smell, taste and enjoyment of that first sip is clearly an inspiration to wake up.

What we have noticed is the difference in the strength and taste of the coffee when my husband makes me a latte, and when I make one for myself. We both use our espresso coffee machine, the coffee beans are freshly ground in the same manner, and generally the latte is prepared in the same manner.

We have been discussing this difference amongst ourselves and we finally realized that the strength and taste of the coffee is determined by how the ground coffee is compacted in the filter.  My husband presses down harder and firmer with the tamper than what I am capable of, resulting in a stronger espresso brew.

As they say, a great cup of coffee is determined by the following factors:-
25% relies on the equipment
25% relies on the coffee
50% relies on the person making the coffee.

This maxim is once again proven correct when on holiday or away from home.

Whilst looking for my morning fix, firstly, as for all coffee lovers, I find an espresso coffee machine in a cafe that is lovingly handled and well taken care of.  Basically where every coffee served is made with care producing a high quality espresso each time.  I peruse the coffee menu offerings studiously, observe the flow around the coffee machine before hesitantly placing my order.

Once I have found a good espresso maker, I always go back there and ensure that only
that barista will make my latte for me. If the chosen barista is not present at that time, I will very reluctantly order a coffee that a mere mortal makes, or forgo that fix and await the arrival of said chosen barista.

Enjoying coffee is a rewarding experience. The rich texture and heaviness on the tongue, the taste that lingers and the fragrant strong aroma, all make coffee drinking a pleasurable experience.
