A unique Indonesian, the trees are actually transplants from the Jamaican Blue Mountain growing regions. The combination of the JBM trees and the unique Indonesian soil creates a coffee that is somewhere in between. Not as earthy as a Sumatra, and with a lighter body then a Java, it is a clean cup with sweet acidity and a deep, complex flavor. Roasting this bean to the French Roast level brings out even more body, and the Indonesian earthiness missing from the lighter roasts.

  1. Purchased these on saturday night and received them on tuesday, the beans are SUPER oily, which i really like and the roast on them is a really good french roast. Produces a full bodied coffee with a slightly sweeter note than im used to, but for 27 for 5 pounds this is great for my everyday coffee.

The coffee cartels and monopolies are desperately trying to control market prices, enter Coffee Bean Direct, offering a great product for a very reasonable price, and oh soo fresh too! That $8.99 a pound stuff at the grocery is just not on the same page! I am gonna shut up now; you need to go order up a bag and see for for yourself!

We were very pleased with our 5lb bag of french roast. My boyfriend is a coffee snob, but we’re on a tight budget these days and even he had to concede we were spending an awful lot on coffee. Buying one bag of this saved us $15.

This french roast is not quite as good as my boyfriend’s local house-roasted preferred blend, and it is a wee bit more acid than the Whole Food’s “Early Morning Buzz” that I drink, but after a few days we stopped noticing. Next time I’ll buy two bags and freeze one – the last bag we got was fresh enough to make that an option. I’d like to try some of the other blends from Coffee Bean Direct, too.

The bag is laughably large, by the way. You’ll open the box and say “Whoa – now that’s A LOT of coffee!”

  4. So I like really dark roasts but not quite expresso. This particular roast is dark but not their darkest per coffee direct.

If you go to their site there are great explanations of each roast. It is cheaper to order thru amazon (especially quick ship if you are a prime member). This one produces very very smooth coffee using my Capresso grind and brew. My wife thinks it makes the best coffee we have ever made at home.

I emailed them and got an answer within a half hour. FYI the 2 darkest they have before expresso roast are Dark Sumatra and Dark Celbes which I’m going to try next time.

Great coffee, great price. I highly recommend.
